Search on the word Suminagashi. Chinese ink is floated on the surface of a shallow water bath, then fanned or blown to form undulating shapes. Turpentine separates areas of ink, so the process is ink followed by turps and repeated a number of times. Paper with good wet strength is laid carefully on top and an image transfers to the paper.
